SHONA MCNEILL

I am a professional qualified counsellor and coach and have been supporting people dealing with difficult challenges for many years. I am also registered with the Australian Counselling Association. 


My passion has always been to help other people work through life challenges to find their unique way in life by empowering and supporting them to heal to become their best selves. 


Having been through many challenges in my own life including the grief of the loss of my Father and many loved ones, including loss of an income/job, relationship, loss of a pet, loss of the way forward in my life.

 

Through dealing with these difficult challenges including becoming a full-time carer, I have developed an extremely deep understanding of other people and what their needs are and how to support them during these difficult and challenging times.

 

During the time when I attended counselling therapy and coaching for support, I found my way back to living my life with more meaning, passion and purpose and this is the gift I am able to offer and share with my clients.


You do not need a referral from your GP or a mental health plan to see me.


Counselling and coaching are completely about YOU and how you can meet your goals and needs in your life.
 

WORKING WITH ME

My personal approach to Coaching & Counselling is based on some of the following modalities:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness Therapy, supporting people to enter the present moment more fully especially in areas of life that is out of their control and to guide them with a variety of step by step techniques towards positive change which is designed to enrich their lives.

​

  • Cognitive behavioural (CBT) - CBT supports people to take steps towards a change in unwanted and unhealthy behaviours, techniques used involves efforts to change thinking patterns. 

​

  • Solution focused Therapy (SFT) - SFBT is a form of therapy that focuses on solutions instead of on the problems, empowering the person towards enhancing their own lives.

​

  • Coaching - Supporting clients to a clear pathway forward by providing Coaching Support and teaching relevant skills, tactics and techniques.

​

  • Mindfulness techniques can at times be used in cases of anxiety and depression.

MY BACKGROUND

MY WORK IN AFRICA

I have volunteered over the years in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya, helping people and children obtain food, education, eyesight and much more, this work has helped build compassion and develop a deep understanding of the difficulties people deal with in everyday life. Counselling and coaching are all part of where my passion lies, it always has and always will.
